How a Redesign Increased Promotion Feature Usage by 3.5x
I led the end-to-end redesign of Vaset Kala’s promotion feature, transforming a neglected tool into a high-value asset that increased user engagement by 3.5x.
Problem
Initial data from Google Analytics and Hotjar highlighted a critical drop-off in the seller’s journey, indicating that the paid promotion feature was underperforming. Through heuristic evaluations and usability testing, I identified that the core issue was a lack of transparency and trust.
Visibility of System Status: Users were expected to pay for a service without a clear understanding of what they were purchasing, leading to high friction.
Vague Value Proposition: The benefits of "boosting" a post were abstract; sellers couldn't visualize the return on their investment.
Low Conversion & Trust: The absence of visual feedback caused a significant disconnect, resulting in low conversion rates and poor feature adoption.
Solution
I led a user-centered redesign focused on eliminating ambiguity and demonstrating immediate value. By introducing interactive elements and visual cues, I bridged the gap between the cost and the benefit of the feature.
Real-time Preview Component: Implemented a "What You See Is What You Get" (WYSIWYG) preview, allowing sellers to compare their standard ad against a promoted version instantly.
Psychological Anchoring: Utilized visual contrast to emphasize the "boosted" status, making the value proposition tangible and reducing cognitive load.
Streamlined Selection: Simplified the promotion tiers into a more intuitive UI, guiding users through the payment process with clear, status-oriented feedback.
Results & Conclusion
The redesign transformed the promotion feature from a confusing hurdle into a transparent, high-value tool. By addressing the lack of visibility and building user trust through real-time feedback, we successfully turned a low-engagement feature into a primary revenue driver for the platform.
